“O God, even though I am very little before you, this little, this being nothing before thee – is for me infinitely much. All else is to me worth nothing, absolutely nothing.” (Soren Kierkegaard).
I don’t quite know where I came across this Kierkegaard quote but it reminds me of David’s response to his wife, Michal, who despised him for his dancing before the Lord when the ark was brought in to Jerusalem. David responded to Michal:
“I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honour.” (2 Samuel 6:23, NIV 1984).
