I was browsing the web last night. I have a few go to Christian sites that I like to look at. Actually, as one browses the web there are hundreds and thousands, or rather, hundreds of millions, as we all know. It can be truly overwhelming. The expansion of knowledge – at the click of a button. That’s why it is good to find sites that one has confidence in and can be trusted.
The Gospel Coalition is a site which I highly recommend. It was begun by Don Carson and Tim Keller who, after about four years of planning, launched this organisation in 2005.
I generally start at the US edition of The Gospel Coalition which is rich in resources and discussion. There are short articles by a vast array of Christian leaders, links to theology articles (the magazine, Themelios, is now on the site), podcasts, sermons and links to other blog and websites. The movement has expanded internationally and has sites in at least a dozen languages and, at last count, in about 17 countries. There is an Australian edition as well.
My wife and I even attended a Gospel Coalition Canadian conference back in 2014. It was on Prince Edward Island (Anne of Green Gables territory) and was such a privilege and blessing for us. The main speakers were Ray Ortlund and Scotty Smith who feature regularly on the US website. Ray has written a book on Revival and his voice introduces some episodes of my own podcast ‘Riding on the Clouds‘ like ‘Remembering JI Packer’, episode 1. (Ray kindly gave me his permission to use his voice in that way.)
If you are looking for an excellent podcast about studying the bible then I also highly commend the Nancy Guthrie series ‘Help me Teach the Bible‘. Nancy has recorded interviews with a range of qualified bible teachers and preachers on every book of the bible. My own Bishop, Michael Stead, features in one – the book of Haggai. Each episode runs for about 50-60 minutes. I’ve had some great car trips listening to them. This series is sponsored by Crossway publishers and is a superb resource especially when you are wondering where to begin with a book of the bible. Nancy’s podcast has many other episodes which are linked with teaching the Scriptures today.
Nancy’s contribution is just one sample of the extraordinary resources which the Lord has been blessing the Church with in our modern era. The Gospel Coalition – a great place to go as you seek to ‘grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ’ (2 Peter 3:18).
